Last year, Cadillac introduced the Escalade iQ, a 100% electric version of its monumental SUV. However, we recently learned that there will also be an extended version of it. Unfortunately, no additional details have been provided, but we should learn more about the Cadillac iQL in the coming months.
The news was not officially announced by General Motors. Instead, a spokesperson for the brand reportedly let slip the information at the Chicago Auto Show in an interview with Car and Driver.
Why an Extended Version
As if full-size SUVs weren’t already imposing enough, many of them offer an extended version. The additional cargo space can make all the difference for large families or adventurers who want to bring as much gear as possible with them. However, in the case of luxury vehicles, it also means there’s more space to create a personalized cabin. Moreover, why not go for the largest vehicle possible when opting for such a big model to begin with? Ultimately, the news of adding an extended version to the Escalade iQL lineup is not very surprising.
Replacing the Escalade?
The American market has an appetite for large SUVs and anything with a colossal engine. Thus, I don’t believe the Cadillac Escalade iQ will replace the gasoline version anytime soon. Not to mention, the model is significantly different from the regular Escalade aesthetically. In my opinion, both SUVs will coexist for as long as there is demand for each.
For now, not much is known about the Cadillac Escalade iQ beyond what has already been announced. The American manufacturer estimates the model’s maximum range to be over 724 kilometers on a full charge, which is well above average. The large electric SUV will also feature a curved 55-inch screen, one of the largest in the industry. It will even offer a luxury option for the second row for owners who want to hire a chauffeur. In short, the Cadillac Escalade iQ has everything it needs to impress. Now, all that’s left is to hope that the American manufacturer’s SUV delivers the goods.
